It’s not every day that a client announces a $50 million windfall in a settlement with the U.S. government, but Idea Grove Senior Account Executive Stephanie Wick was ready when such an assignment came her way.
Wick is the latest winner of our Way to Grove Award for her effective media relations strategy and execution on behalf of Apptricity Corp. The quarterly award recognizes members of the Idea Grove team for notable, tangible results achieved for clients. Winners receive a $250 cash prize and an award certificate.
In November, Apptricity was ready to announce the successful conclusion of a copyright infringement claim against the Department of Defense. The Army has used Apptricity’s integrated transportation logistics and asset management software across the Middle East and other theaters of operation since about 2004. It allows movements to be tracked in real time, down to an item’s specific location on a particular transport vehicle.
The claim came after Apptricity discovered its software had been deployed beyond what had been contracted by field commanders focused on the urgency of their jobs. In its claim, Apptricity sought compensation for approximately 100 server and 9,000 device licenses the U.S. Army installed and fielded globally – but did not procure. After mediation proceedings, the parties agreed to settle for $50 million.
When the settlement was final, Wick, with guidance and support from Vice President of Content Mike Drago, quickly assembled a strategy to spread word of the settlement while also emphasizing that Apptricity and the Army remain strong partners. The plan included the systematic rollout of a press release and arranging key, targeted media interviews with Apptricity executives.
As a result of Wick’s efforts, Apptricity and the settlement received:
- Coverage in more than 200 media outlets around the world.
- U.S. coverage that included The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, TIME magazine, The Washington Post, FOX News, CBS Washington, the San Francisco Chronicle, Gizmodo, ZDNet, Computerworld and Digital Trends.
- International coverage that included BBC News, TechWeekEurope UK, CRM UK, CIO UK, Computerworld India and Business Insider Australia.
"Facing the largest single event in Apptricity’s 14 year history, we relied on Idea Grove and especially Stephanie,” said Roger Sanford, chief marketing officer at Apptricity. “Her planning for in-the-moment responsiveness and genuine leadership made all the difference!"
