Outside the USA I doubt the cheerleader would get a mention, but on the whole I really question whether most people mix up the reality with the sexual fantasy. I don't, but I suppose I can see how people might. I find all these costumes sexy, but not for the projection onto the profession depicted, more for the enthusiasm of the wearer to make an effort for my sexual enjoyment. There are of course very superficial links; French Maid "Can I do anything for you sir?" or Nurse; "Take your pants down, sir." But these are all fairly detached from real life and for most people the interest would be in the variety and aforementioned effort from your loved one than in actively connecting with the professionals. Don't worry professions. Beneath the veneer most people are fundamentally sensible.

Guys don't really think that just about stewardess's, we just want to think that way
about every women. When guys fantasize about women, these fantasies have to make
some kind of sense in order for us to believe them. So it's simple, a woman flys
in to a city and needs to stay in a hotel for the night. She's down at the bar
having a couple drinks by herself, because she doesn't know anyone in that city,
and she's looking for some company. She's already got the hotel room, and you
both know that youll probably never see each other again so she can be as
sexually free and crazy as she really wants too. But don't feel too bad, guys
think that about every woman. Name a profession and guys probably have had a
fantasy about them. I was walking through an airport with a friend and he says
"we should meet some chicks, girls in airports are easy". haha It's just wishful
thinking.

I just happened upon this question, albeit almost 2 years later, and I feel compelled to respond as I have been pondering a similiar question all day. I am a flight attendant (stewardess) and in light of the recent events that have transpired between David Letterman and Sarah Palin, I wonder: why does everyone think that flight attendant = slut??? I really am bewildered by this since I have personally known men to just expect that I am easy based solely on my career choice. It really is insulting, not only to me when it happens, but to the profession in general. I have known many extremely educated, talented, interesting and open minded flight attendants that simply do not get the respect that they greatly deserve because of a somehow widely accepted stereotype. I think that it is a sad example of how we (and by that I mean mostly men) are so willing to believe a gross generalization to fulfill our fantasies!!
