      I’m not so certain Pelosi’s absence from the national scene in the runup to the upcoming election isn’t planned… even recommended. I guess that makes it a “conspiracy” by definition, but I don’t think it’s anything that that we need to attribute these horrible connotations usually reserved for conspiracies.

      Pelosi’s values aren’t typically those which you would find in the South and Midwest, and the Democrats will experience problems if she (or Kerry, who admitted to going low-key for the rest of the election season) becomes the face of the party. Her absence — and Kerry’s and Michael Moore’s — is just smart.
