Scott, you know I love your blog, read it all the time, enjoy your point of view immensely. And I don’t care if you ask for people to select you as a Technorati fave. Whatever floats your boat, makes you happy.

So, don’t take it personally — I just don’t do the Technorati thing. Full stop. Given my opinion of popularity lists in general, that shouldn’t surprise anyone

Do you have an Advil I can borrow?

OK, here's my reasoning -- not that I did more than about five seconds of reasoning before I wrote the post:

1. I don't write this blog so I can read my own writing. If I did, I would lock it up in a cute little diary with a key. I write this blog because I want people to read it.

2. When people read the blog and enjoy it, it makes me feel all happy inside. That's why I like seeing that people have visited the site, or subscribed to the feed, or commented on a post, or added me to their Favorites.

3. While I like being added to people's Favorites, I don't want anyone to add Media Orchard to their Favorites if it isn't actually one of their Favorites. That would defeat the purpose.

4. Do I like my blog to be highly ranked? Sure. It's fun, and it provides an opportunity to expose the blog to more people. I think most who say otherwise are hypocrites -- or at least are kidding themselves.

But, if everyone lists you as a favorite and has a lot of favorites, doesn’t it diminish the definition of favourites? (Tossed in a “u” for our Britsh and Canadian buddies.)
