Downtime Means Lost Customers

From ipwalk.com:

Blockbuster … experienced several periods of downtime [in the past week]. They may even have had more website downtime than our logs indicate, since a “maintenance page” … is considered up by our system (since it delivers a web page).

The downtimes are unfortunate for Blockbuster, since many of them have taken place during the day and evening (US time) when their customers are likely to visit. Consumers are a fickle bunch, so their online competitor Netflix may well have received some new customers because of this.

Before Netflix, it might not have mattered so much. But for Web-based consumers, downtime is a competitive differentiator for movie rental sites. It’s serious business — and people are taking notice.
