Has Your Blog Never Linked to Media Orchard? Now's Your Chance to Redeem Yourself

We noticed that our Technorati ranking based on unique links is now 3,099, which puts us very close to cracking the Vaunted Top 3,000. (Actually we kind of made up the "vaunted" part. And the cap letters -- we added that, too.)

For those of you unfamiliar with the Technorati system, you jump up the rankings based on links from blogs that have never linked to you before (at least during the past six months.) Media Orchard currently has 926 links from 376 sites.

We did a little checking and figured out that we could crack the Vaunted Top 3,000 with only 10 more links from sites that haven't linked to us before.

So, if you read Media Orchard and have a blog, but have never linked to us before -- perhaps because your blog is about airplane mechanics, taxidermy or other unrelated topics -- we say it's time to link to us just to show your love.

You say you can't think of a legitimate reason to link to us? Here, we'll even write the post for you. Feel free to cut and paste this directly into your blog (Ben, this should come naturally for you):

This jackass told me to link to this post on his site, and I'm doing it just to show what a jackass he is. (Link goes here.)

See how easy that is? Now, do it, please.

By the way, is this pandering? No -- it's begging; there's a difference.

Did you forget you're reading a PR guy's blog?

  • If I only had a few more voices in my head, I could have a blog for each of them to link to you, sorry.

  • I'm with the bigger logo guy...

Ok, I'll do it... but only because I assume that one of my sites will get another Pick of the Orchard sometime very, very soon...

  • I believe someone once said that life is but a series of quid pro quos...

Actually, I think that was me who said that.

Ben, please credit me if you decide to use it.

  • Ok, I've linked before and now I have again. I think that makes for some appropriate butt kissing. You guys are the best... and I say that in the most loving and supportive way possible...

  • Sending you a bit of fresh link love from over here. :)

  • Scott: You're supposed to find some classy way to do this, so it doesn't look so crass. Maybe post something about a little girl with an uncurable disease, and ask people to link to it, or something. Didn't they teach you anything in Blog Mutual Love 101?

I'm withholding any links for a week, as punishment for your blatant link-mongering!

    By Blogger Eric_E, at 3/24/2006

  • Yep, I always confuse "class" and "crass." I'm sure there's some tasteless Asian joke to be made here -- but I'm not THAT crass.

  • I thought about linking to you, but I probably don't have the sort of ranking you'd want....

By Blogger The Morningstar, at 3/25/2006

  • Sigh ... another customer lost.

    By Blogger SB, at 3/25/2006

  • Hey Scott. I did my part! Wish I could do more. Your blog rocks.

By Blogger Steve Rubel, at 3/26/2006

  • Um, who cares? It's about passion and taking part in the conversation, not about being a Steve, or a link whore.

Shit, I never bother checking that stuff. It's just not in my genes. I read your blog because you say stuff - that should be enough.

    By Blogger Jeremy, at 3/26/2006

  • I'm just drunk again, Jeremy -- pay me no mind.

    By Blogger SB, at 3/26/2006

  • Hey you know there are movements to delete certain blogs off of blogrolls because they are "not important." Why tempt the fates by asking for links for something - at the end of the day - is not something you are going to look back on at your deathbed and say "I wish I had more links."

That's for others to live that way.

For you, I see it as "I am glad I spent quality time with my wife and dog, and did all those great things." Don't let this own you.

    By Blogger Jeremy, at 3/26/2006

  • We need to do drinks, Jeremy -- honestly.

If we did, you would realize that I do this all for fun.

Of course I won't care about my stupid Technorati rank on my deathbed. And YOU KNOW WHAT Jeremy? I also won't care that I made "PR more pure" or whatever you might think is a worthwhile career mission.

Ever since I left journalism, my goals have been to have career success on my own terms as much as possible; to have fun as often as possible; and to not take myself too seriously. It's been an approach that has kept me from getting ulcers.

That said, the link stuff is fun for me. So what? I hope to hell you can see the tongue-in-cheek, self-mocking tone of all these posts.

And if some little clique wants to remove my blog from their blogroll because they think it's "not important," they can kiss my ass. THOSE are the people I care least about.

  • Sorry, Scott. After threatening a link boycott, I ended up linking to your blog this week. My credibility is in tatters. Just couldn't resist the Strumpette thing. ;-)
