From the Mountaintop: More PR Wisdom from Tom Foremski

We’ve gotten annoyed. We’ve made a fool of ourselves yelling at him until we’re blue in the face. Now we’ve decided to go Zen and see if that works.

Here’s self-anointed PR god Tom Foremski with more of his egotastic musings on the future of our profession:

I’ve been telling the PR industry for some time now that things cannot go along as they are . . . business as usual while mainstream media goes to hell in a hand basket. I’ve been saying this privately and publicly and having some very useful discussions on this topic.

Since I have a disruptive role to play in mainstream PR, here is my demolition of the press release as we know and hate it today…

Is this getting old for anyone?

We’re sitting in the lotus position as we post this.

Tom F. must’ve have received some pretty bad — and I mean bad being bad, not good — news releases in his journalistic days. Boy, is he scarred and bitter.

Blanket statements, rather posts like his provide very little constructive criticism. I left my comments there, so I won’t repeat too much of it.

With people like Tom F. there is no use arguing or debating because they are irrational.

    Thanks for the pointer, Scott.

And, don’t worry, no matter how low you sink in Technorati’s Favs, you’ll always be one of my favs!

When someone performs a public service, then they deserve the thanks of the people they have helped.

Thank you, I feel less stressed have read that post. I thought it was just me who is tired of this ill-informed, pontificating irrelevance. Every West coast PR blog seems to treat the content with kid gloves.

I think the emperor has no clothes on.

Or as we say on this side of the pond: He’s nekkid.

How’s your lotus pose these days :-)

Damn, I try and do you guys a favor and improve the product (of which I am a target) and you guys go crazy.

Fine, continue on with a defective product that hasn’t changed in decades. I don’t really care because I don’t deal with press releases, I deal with direct-to-Tom pitches and I use the press release for background info or I quote from it and say the company said:

But it could be a lot more useful if the format were changed a bit–I’m not saying we shouldn’t have them I’m just fed up they haven’t changed to reflect the realities of the online world.

I thought you lot had an ethical duty to communicate your client’s message in the most effective and best format possible–maybe I’m wrong…

Tom, thanks for posting here. I guess the tone just comes off as a little pedantic to me. But I can be pedantic with the best of them when I want to be, so I can’t claim superiority in that respect. (This position is starting to hurt; I think my legs are asleep.)
