Maybe This Works in New York?

Media Orchard didn’t know who Ronn Torossian was until today. We suppose we should be embarrassed to admit this, since “as CEO of the fastest growing PR firm in the US, 5W Public Relations,” Ronn “is known for speaking the truth.”

At least that’s what Ronn himself says in the initial post on his new blog. In a subsequent post, the CEO of the fastest-growing PR firm in the U.S. tells Gawker off with the f-word.

Why was Ronn mad at Gawker? Because Jessica and Jesse linked to a letter from Ronn to PRWeek. The letter reads, in part:

I very much resent and am amazed that our agency was not named to the shortlist of “Small PR Firm of the Year” by PRWeek…

I’m amazed because in 2005 we were featured in a front-page, two-page story in The New York Times, where 5W’s CEO was referred to as “the consummate hard-driving, scrappy New York publicist.”

We are good enough to be featured positively in the Sunday New York Times, but not shortlisted by PRWeek? Simply absurd…

Could it be that the industry simply doesn’t like our style? Perhaps they don’t like the fact that we don’t play by their rule book? Maybe the fact that we won’t sit quietly annoys them?…

Judges, here’s a hint: We won’t slow down, and we will keep pushing because our clients want it and demand it.

Jealously [sic] may abound, but we are building a brand and succeeding.

Well, to give the man his due, he has actually grown to a staff of 50 ... but still, that's a LOT of 'tude.

Fastest growing small PR firm in the country? I guess when you go from zero persons to one person, that's a 100% growth rate. Hard to argue with that kind of "aggressive, results oriented" success.

Ronn's rant helps establish his credibility...or lack thereof. The Ronn post that really bothers me is his casual, sloppy email he sent Gawker when Coretta Scott King passed away.http://tinyurl.com/8y8xmHe reminds me of Plankton from SpongeBob Squarepants. He's loud, wants to rule the world, but no one takes him seriously.
