The New York Times Reality Show

As the accusations keep on flying in New York Times v. Judy Miller (oh, are there actually politicians involved in this scandal, too?), I am amazed by how dysfunctional the media coverage has made the paper appear. Especially the Times‘ coverage of itself.

Dysfunctional enough, in fact, to form the basis for a new reality show.

I’m still working on the details — but think The Apprentice crossed with Big Brother and a touch of Breaking Bonaduce.

We put Judy Miller, Jayson Blair, Howell Raines, Bill Keller, Maureen Dowd and a few disgruntled no-names in a house. We let them write stories and then blame each other when problems surface. Each week, Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., fires the person who does the most long-term damage to the newspaper.

I really, really hope it’s not as bad as it sounds. The Times is still the best paper in the world, and I’d like it to stay that way.
