Wal-Mart's PR War
Here's an interesting article from Salon on Wal-Mart's current image problem. The company has certainly made mistakes, but it's inevitable that you're going to take some heat when you become as large and powerful as Wal-Mart. Just ask Microsoft or Nike, among similar backlash victims.

There would be no "heat" if their biz practices were in the overall best interest of the global stage they play and/or prey upon, a bottom line mentality is what brings the heat and eventual downfall of mainstream corporate thinking, not even Mr. Gates is safe from the compassion of truth, it has and will take down every entity and so called civilization that can not support truth, if one is taking heat, one needs only to remove the fuel from the fire, and put that energy toward building trust and cooperation in their relationships.

All public corporations ultimately have a bottom-line mentality; that's their charter. But you're right that Wal-Mart has not always worked to "build trust and cooperation in its relationships." Some of its former suppliers and other partners equate the company to the person who will do anything, and step on anybody, to get to the top. If these charges are true, this mentality has surely contributed to its current public relations troubles.
